Beautiful cutlery designed by famous japanese architect Toyo Ito for Alessi. I always used to love Alessi products even as a child. I would love to hold this in my hands sometime and see how funcional they are and maybe even getting the set.

The NYT’s new layout

Beautiful little project called “Snow Fall” by the New York Times showing that they can do much better if they wanted to. Not a new idea, but I like the way how they highlight the people mentioned in the article, the auto-playing of the videos are quite smoothly done as well.

The Beauty of Hiragana

I have always wished that the japanese had not adopted Kanji, because I love the unique beauty of Hiragana. Maybe they would have invented more beautiful symbols like it if there never had been Kanji.

Here is some beautiful work done based on Hiragana. One from Hideo Kanbara and the other by Taku Satoh.

Block House by Taylor + Reynolds

The style of this house designed by Taylor + Reynolds reminds me a lot of my fathers work. Really like the the not overly designed style, the layout and the size of this, as well as the use of not too extravagant but very nice materials (wooden wall, brick wall, usage of tiles vs. flooring etc.).

I hadn’ seen this talk until a week ago and was seriously blown away by it. Did you know about Bret Victor? I had read A brief rant on the future of interaction design or Learnable Programming and seen his site before, but never knew that he was such a visionary!

MDS has an interesting take of solving the problem of exposing the in side of the house to the neighbourhood by creating a lot of windows facing different rooms inside the house.

I thought it might be all things that are more than obvious that will be listed in this article on CoDesign. But it was quite a bit more interesting than expected. Often, we think we know and somehow we might, but it is very difficult to formulate the things we experience. Read the full article on CoDesign.

Hagiwara Butcher Shop

Very bold and unique renovation af a butcher shop called Hagiwara Seinikuten in Kamakura by Design 8.
I am not too sure if this is the best way to design a butchers shop, since I don’t feel like the meet is displayed very well, but the minimalistic facade with this unique finish that almost makes it look metallic in combination with the dark wooden interior reminds me of how Tanizaki Junichiro described traditional japanese aesthetics “In Praise of Shadows“.
